The candlestick telephone was common from the 1890’s to the 1940’s – this one’s probably from the 1920’s and is in great shape. When these were used, it was common to be on a ‘party line’ where several subscribers were on the same line, each identified by a different ring, and eavesdropping on your neighbours was common entertainment!
Since it’s a real antique, we left the telephone practically untouched, other than replacing the old frayed handset cord with something a little more decorative (and cleaner!) and adding a brass accent on the dial.
